Contracted Research and Special Projects

XPI Simulation has a long history of involvement in pioneering research and development (R&D) activity for a number of government and commercial clients, including the UK Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL), QinetiQ and Highways England.

XPI’s role as a trusted research partner has spanned a wide range of subject areas, including innovative techniques for processing LIDAR data, ray tracing, use of virtual and augmented reality systems in simulation, and information warfare effects in synthetic environments.

XPI’s deep technical expertise drives the company’s product development and enables the realisation of customer benefits from research activity.

XPI also leverages research activity in order to drive adoption of standards across simulation, enabling better re-use of simulation assets and integration of new technology alongside existing systems.

XPI Simulation’s strong technical ethos and understanding of complex customer requirements enables the company to deliver tailor-made driving simulators for the most demanding applications. XPI is able to provide a turnkey solution for bespoke systems, directing the selection and installation of best-in-class hardware and display systems to realise our customers’ ambitions.

The modular nature of XPI’s core driving simulator software enables integration of various hardware systems, including motion bases, eye-tracking devices and hardware-in-the-loop simulation equipment, as well as providing the flexibility to accommodate bespoke software, such as vehicle dynamics packages.

XPI’s adaptive approach has led to the supply of simulators to diverse organisations to satisfy multifaceted research goals – including Toyota Motorsport, the University of Warwick, Brunel University, Nottingham University and the Grimsby Institute for Further and Higher Education.
