Ship’s
bridge simulators are used to provide basic and advanced training
for transiting harbours, arriving and departing from quaysides
and manoeuvring in formation.

However,
the specific difficulties involved with maritime applications
are the need for dynamic sea states and weather effects, which
further increase the realism. The answer to these difficulties
can be found in XPI Simulation’s software. As well as offering
weather effects such as snow, fog and rain, the software also
offers marine calls such as rotor-blade downwash, ship's wakes
and dynamic sea states.
Most recently,
XPI Simulation won a large contract to supply the visuals to
Phoenix Simulation for fast patrol boat trainers for a Far Eastern
customer. XPI Simulation has also been involved in a number of
maritime applications including pilotage with Ship Analytics,
naval gunnery trainers with Lockheed Martin and crane simulators.
XPI Simulation was selected by Ship Analytics to provide the visuals
for a full size crane simulation training system. The simulator
was delivered to the Pacific Maritime Association training facility
in the US and is used to train crane operators to meet the challenging
safety requirements for loading and discharging cargoes. The
simulator consists of a realistic crane cab and controls. XPI Simulation supplied a three-channel visual solution to generate realistic
images of the crane, cargo and surrounding port area.
