Marshalling helicopters
or aircraft, both on land and at sea requires
clear and precise signalling to avoid costly
and/or dangerous mistakes. To aid training in
this skill XPI Simulation has developed the Marshalling
Simulator, which meets the stringent aircraft
marshalling training requirements. The Marshalling
Simulator offers numerous advantages and has
a proven track record with the RAF. It is ideal
for both military and commercial aircraft marshalling
applications and for ab initio, continuation
and hazard training.
The Marshalling Sim can provide training for
complex and dangerous scenarios in a controlled
environment. By using simulation, students can
be trained to handle stressful and emergency
situations which are otherwise impossible to
generate. Environmental effects can be easily
changed and controlled using XPI Simulation software
with its specialist lighting techniques and particle
effects. Different scenarios, time of day and
weather conditions can be used to train marshallers
in directing aircraft in tough weather conditions
such as snow and fog as well as at night.
The Marshalling Sim offers exceptionally high
visual image quality by using XPI Simulation's Fabriano
XL IG range. Using Fabriano means that stable images
in the database are obtained rather than the jerky
images often seen in lower end products such as
games. XPI Simulation products easily handle high
performance specs and deliver an outstanding image
quality solution.
XPI Simulation software also offers
spherical and cylindrical warping including edge
blending for multiple channels. With a wrap around
curved screen, the user has one large, panoramic
view and benefits from a fully immersive visual
training system. A

The success of the initial marshalling
simulator at RAF Cosford has since led to further
sales overseas such as the recent contract in Canada.
XPI Simulation won the contract amidst fierce competition
to deliver a Marshalling Simulator to the Canadian
Air Force in Borden. The simulator was designed,
built and delivered adhering to a strict timescale
of three months. The Canadian Air force is very
pleased with the result and uses the simulator
to train up to 500 technicians a year.
