WeSTT Trainer

The WeSTT trainer is one of a number of low-cost, PC based mission deployable weapon trainers that XPI Simulation has developed to train students to improve their tracking skills for firing missiles. XPI Simulation WeSTT trainers are capable of replicating the procedure for firing all major missiles systems.

Realistic imagery is also critical to improving tracking skills as is good target resolutions. At the heart of the WeSTT trainer is a XPI Simulation Image Generator capable of animating high resolution, photo-realistic 360º backgrounds with high detailed 3D targets. This level of sophisticated photo-realistic technology on an IG is unique to XPI Simulation.

The WeSTT part-task trainer allows students to develop their accuracy skills with unlimited simulated firings. The WeSTT trainers can also be configured to include the identical hand controllers to those used for example in a helicopter. Soldiers are then presented with accurate control sequences for selecting and arming the weapon followed by a wide variety of high fidelity visual engagement scenarios against a variety of targets.

The benefits of the WeSTT trainer are numerous:

  • PC-based, enabling the system to be easily maintained as well as easily transported
  • Low operating costs
  • Performance feedback
  • No supervision necessary, designed to be self-operated
  • Vehicle-Specific configurable console controls to replicate specific procedures
  • Cost-effective positive training transfer to the operational weapon system.
An example of where the WeSTT Trainer has been used is the TOW Trainer that was developed by XPI Simulation for the British Army Air Corps to effectively replicate the procedure for firing a TOW missile from a helicopter. The TOW Trainer systems at the School of Army Aviation continue to demonstrate a 100% reliability record.
