Thales selects XPI's Tempest for Air Defence Simulators
3rd May 2010
Thales was awarded the contract from the MoD earlier this year for the Air Defence Availability Project (ADAPT), which includes through-life support of its advanced Starstreak missile system and capability insertion for the next 10 years. Its choice of Tempest for the real time generation of 3D imagery is not surprising considering its long experience with the software and the number of other projects based on the Tempest API application programmers interface.
Noel Ogle of Thales UK said “Tempest was chosen for use in the embedded systems due its reliability and its ability to maintain a fast and constant update rate. From our experience with previous projects we have found XPI's technical support to be very good and they are always genuinely attentive”.
Tempest’s increasing use in simulator systems varying in size from vehicle embedded systems to networked multi-channel simulators is a testament to its performance, low cost and ease of use.
XPI has subsequently been engaged by Thales to supply geo-specific databases of various training areas for use in this project in an open format that allows easy reuse and modification.
